Come enjoy a special meal with the San Antonio Bar Association and the San Antonio Bar Foundation at our annual holiday luncheon on Thursday, December 12 with special guest speaker Judge Edward C. Prado.
||Prado served as an Assistant District Attorney in the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office. Thereafter, in 1976 he served in the Federal Public Defender’s Office in the Western District of Texas as an Assistant Public Defender. In 1980, Judge Prado was appointed to serve as a Texas state District Judge in Bexar County, Texas. In 1981, President Ronald Reagan appointed Judge Prado to serve as the United States Attorney for the Western District of Texas.
In 1984, Reagan appointed Prado to the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. He remained on that court until he was elevated to his current position.
Prado was nominated on February 6, 2003 by President George W. Bush to fill a vacancy on the Fifth Circuit created by Judge Robert Manley Parker, who retired outright from the federal bench on November 1, 2002 to return to private law practice. He was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 1, 2003, just under three months after his nomination. Prado was the second judge nominated to the Fifth Circuit by Bush and confirmed by the Senate.
Attendees are encouraged to bring an unwrapped, new or gently used toy for the Children’s Court on the third floor of the Bexar County Courthouse. In addition to stocking the children’s educational/play room with toys and computers so that children can keep up with their schoolwork, the Children’s Courts also have an ongoing need for children’s toys and gift items. If a child is enthralled with a book or has fallen in love with a stuffed animal, that item is given to the child upon departure. Each child who goes through the court system is also given a gift bag containing age-appropriate toys, snacks and books. For this year’s toy drive, the Children’s Court has requested a few specific items:
- Stuffed animals
- Educational games
- Costume/dress-up clothes
- Computer games
- Animated DVDs
- DVDs appropriate for toddlers/very young children
There is also a particular need for gift items for older children, such as books, craft supplies and gift cards. If you’d prefer to give a monetary gift, please make it payable to SABA, and we will use the money to purchase gift cards to be used in these gift bags. Please help us make this our best toy drive yet!
As a special thank you, all attorneys who volunteered to “Just Take One” pro bono case through the Community Justice Program in 2013 are invited to enjoy a complimentary lunch at the holiday luncheon.
